Café de Coral Group’s Community Spring Feast 2021 Officially Launches
Café de Coral joins with social welfare organizations to deliver
tailor-made “Hearty & Healthy Poon-Choi” to 4,000 beneficiaries

Organized by Café de Coral Holdings Limited (SEHK: 0341) since 2017, the "Community Spring Feast" invites underprivileged people to enjoy Poon-Choi at Café de Coral restaurants, with the aim of spreading love and joy in Hong Kong. Due to current limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, 2,000 sets of “Nutri-rich” Poon Choi (serving for two) are tailor-made by Café de Coral brand, Luncheon Star, and will be delivered directly to elderly persons, low-income families, disabled people and those severely affected by the pandemic in the community via 20 social welfare organizations, from 17 to 27 February 2021. In addition to giving away Poon-Choi to those in need through social welfare organizations, Café de Coral Group is also encouraging its staff to be the volunteers to share their best wishes and contribute to their local community.

To officially kick-start the “Community Spring Feast 2021”, the Group held the “Community Spring Feast 2021 Kick-off Ceremony cum Poon-Choi Giveaway” event today (17 February), with Peter Lo, Chief Executive Officer of Café de Coral Group, Choi King Kiu, General Manager of Luncheon Star, Cliff Choi, Business Director of Hong Kong Council of Social Service and Marilyn Tang, Executive Director of Food Grace, as the officiating guests. The Kick-off Ceremony also began the sharing of food by providing poon-choi to elderly guests at the event. The Group hopes that the Community Spring Feast will bring joy and demonstrate a message of caring to local communities in need by connecting different social sectors, as well as proffering wishes for a positive and healthy New Year for all community members.

Peter Lo, Chief Executive Officer of Café de Coral Group, expressed, “The Community Spring Feast is one of our most recognized annual community care programmes. As a result of the pandemic, we are not able to invite beneficiaries to enjoy a meal together at our restaurants. Instead, we will deliver our poon-choi directly to elderly persons and low-income families to show our love and support. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a multitude of challenges to all sectors, and we’re determined to offer timely assistance to those in need by utilizing our catering expertise and resources. For example, we launched the ‘Cheer YOU up’ Community Support Programme in March last year, which provided various forms of short-term food assistance to the needy, thereby reducing their economic burden. We are exploring ways in which we can turn this Community Support Programme into a sustainable activity, and wish to maximize the positive impact of our CSR initiatives through long-term collaboration with a range of social welfare partners.”

In recognition of the general public’s desire to pursue a healthy diet, the Group has commissioned its catering brand – Luncheon Star – to make a two-person healthy Poon-Choi for sharing. To ensure adults and children alike can eat happily and healthily, ingredients are selected by professional nutritionists. For example, lean pork, water chestnuts, tofu and mushrooms are used for making braised minced pork meatballs, resulting in food which is less fatty and without frying; the dish is also less oily and has fewer calories overall. This tailor-made Poon Choi also contains 4 servings of vegetables, providing sufficient nutrition and enabling diners to feel energized throughout the new year.
