Food waste reduction campaign – “Power of Individual 2018” officially launches
Café de Coral donates HK$3 to
St. James’ Settlement when customer orders “Less Rice” or “Half Rice”

Café de Coral Holdings Limited (SEHK: 0341) (“The Group”) puts great emphasis on sustainable development and strives its best to assume the corporate social responsibility. Since the establishment of Café de Coral Twinkle Action in 2015, the Group has been leveraging the branch network to undertake a wide array of community engagement and environmental conservation initiatives, helping the people-in-need. This year, Café de Coral once again launches “Power of Individual” campaign which aims at avoiding and reducing food waste through a “less rice” initiatives as well as to inspire the community to cherish resources and help the needy.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Group, Café de Coral launches the “Power of Individual 2018” food waste reduction campaign. Starting from August 14 to November 13, Café de Coral will donate HK$3 to St. James’ Settlement and “FOOD-CO”, a collaborative platform for food support service, when the customer orders “Less Rice” or “Half Rice” during their purchase of rice products. (Steamed rice, baked rice, vegetable rice and instant-fried delicacies are excluded) “FOOD-CO” is Hong Kong’s first all-rounded collaborative platform which aims at boosting the efficiency of food donation. It connected over 330 donation units and 220 food support service points in the first year, raising the number of meals served from 33,000 sets to 40,101 sets, covering nearly 20,000 beneficiaries.

Peter Lo Tak Shing, the Group’s Chief Executive Officer expressed, “it is our pleasure to have collaboration with St. James’ Settlement again this year to launch the “Power of Individual 2018” campaign. We encourage our customers to order the portion of rice which fits their demand so as to reduce the amount of leftovers and conserve the environment. The campaign is meaningful at multiple levels as it requires active support from customers to bring betterment to society.” The Group will keep its efforts in fulfilling the corporate social responsibility to respond to the needs of society.

To enhance the scale of promotion, celebrities Carlos Chan and Michelle Wai were invited to be the campaign ambassador and filmed an online promotion video. The soundtrack is adapted from “L-O-V-E Love” by the Wynners, adding food waste reduction messages into the lyrics to appeal the public’s attention in a vivid way. Café de Coral advocates the message via various channels to raise the awareness about food waste issue among the public and encourage them to change their lifestyles with small acts.
